The Bardic Dice

How to play with The Bardic Dice

Roll on Discord. Real 3D dice land on your table's stream.

Player's guide

You only need Discord. Everything happens on the server where your Game Master added the bot.

  1. Roll your first die

Type this in any channel of the server. The result appears on Discord and on the stream.

    /roll 1d20+5

  2. Create your character

Your first character becomes your active one, and rolls will carry its name.

    /character create name:Aria

  3. Add your stats

Once a stat is saved, use its name in your rolls instead of working out the modifier.

    /character set stat:dex value:3 then /roll 1d20+dex

  4. Prefer buttons?

This opens private buttons for the classic dice, the six abilities and your skills. Only you see the buttons, but everyone sees the results.

Game Master's guide

You need the "Manage Server" permission on your Discord server. Allow ten minutes before your first session.

  1. Add the bot to your server

Invite The Bardic Dice and pick your server. Its commands can take up to an hour to appear the first time.

  2. Open your panel

Log in with Discord and choose your table. You'll see every server where you can manage the bot, and each keeps its own players, skins and overlay.

  3. Put the dice on your stream

In Display, copy the overlay URL. In OBS, add a Browser source, paste the URL and set it to 1920 × 1080. Place it above your camera or game. The background is transparent, so nothing shows until someone rolls.

  4. Seat your players

In Table, search for each player by name. Choose their dice color and texture, set their active character, and tick GM for yourself.

  5. Prepare the characters

Players can create their own with /character create. You can also do it in Characters, where Prefill D&D 5e adds the 6 abilities and 18 skills at 0.

  6. Run a test roll

In Test, send a few fake rolls, a crit and a fumble to your overlay. Nothing is posted on Discord, but they do show on your stream if you're live.

Make it yours

Keep the overlay URL off your stream: anyone who has it can display your table's rolls.
